For twenty-two years I worked as a nurse, caring for people through some of the hardest and most meaningful moments of their lives. Every summer, my family drove to Forever Duo — and every time that salt air hit, something in me exhaled.

Eight years ago a boutique came available here on the coast. My husband David looked at me across the kitchen table and didn't say a word. He didn't have to.

I handed in my notice. We moved. And on a warm April morning I opened the door of Forever Duo for the very first time.

Now I'm sixty-four, and it's time to retire.

Not because something went wrong.

Because something went beautifully right — and I'm wise enough to know when a story has reached its ending.

This is my retirement sale. Every piece I ever chose for this boutique was chosen with one woman in mind — the real one, not the one on the hanger. That hasn't changed.
